The Directorate of Post Graduate Studies was established in the year 1966 with the sole objective of providing post graduate education in agriculture. It is expected that the students would eventually become the torch bearers for enhancing the agricultural growth and livelihood support for the farming and rural community as a whole in the region. Agriculture is the art and science of conserving the soil, growing crops and raising livestock. It includes the preparation of plant and animal products for people to use and distribute to markets.
The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore offers different Masters degree programmes viz., Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Marketing Co-operation & Agri. Business Management, Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Statistics, Agronomy, Apiculture, Bio-informatics, Crop Physiology, Environmental Science, Food Science & Nutrition, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Pathology, Seed Science & Technology, Sericulture, Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry and Agricultural Engineering - Processing & Food Engineering (PFE) and - Soil & Water Engineering (SWE). The residential requirement is two years for Masters degree programme and the time limit for completion is four years.
The Doctoral degrees are offered in the subjects of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Business Management, Agronomy, Crop Physiology, Forestry & Environmental Science, Food Science & Nutrition, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Pathology, Seed Science & Technology, Sericulture and Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry. The residential requirement is three years for Ph.D program and time limit for completion is six years.
